Anti-Ragging

Policy.

VEDAM World School follows a zero-tolerance approach towards ragging, bullying, intimidation and harassment. Every boarder has the right to live, learn and grow in a safe, respectful and nurturing environment.

Our Commitment

At VEDAM World School, every student has the right to live, learn and grow in a safe, respectful and nurturing environment.

The school follows a zero-tolerance approach towards ragging, bullying, intimidation and harassment in any form. Every student deserves dignity, security and equal respect, irrespective of age, class, gender, background or personal identity.

Creating a safe boarding environment is a shared responsibility of students, staff and parents.

What is Ragging?

Ragging includes any act that causes physical, emotional, psychological or social harm to another student. This may include:

  • Physical intimidation or assault
  • Verbal abuse or humiliation
  • Threats or coercion
  • Forced activities
  • Teasing intended to cause distress
  • Social exclusion
  • Damage to personal belongings
  • Cyber bullying or online harassment
  • Any behaviour that creates fear, embarrassment or discomfort

Even if described as a “joke” or “tradition,” such behaviour is strictly prohibited.

Zero-Tolerance Policy

VEDAM World School does not permit ragging under any circumstances.

Any student found involved in ragging, encouraging ragging or failing to report a serious incident may face disciplinary action.

Prevention Measures

The school actively works to prevent ragging through:

  • Orientation programmes for new boarders
  • Regular interaction between students and boarding staff
  • Continuous supervision in boarding houses
  • Counselling and mentoring sessions
  • Leadership programmes promoting empathy and respect
  • Anonymous reporting mechanisms
  • Awareness programmes on respectful behaviour

Reporting an Incident

Students are encouraged to immediately report any incident of ragging or bullying to:

  • Boarding House Parent/Warden
  • Hostel Coordinator
  • School Counsellor
  • Principal
  • Any trusted teacher or staff member

Parents may also report concerns directly to the school administration.

All complaints shall be treated confidentially to the extent possible.

Investigation Process

Upon receiving a complaint, the school shall:

  1. Record the complaint.
  2. Ensure the immediate safety of the affected student.
  3. Conduct a fair and confidential inquiry.
  4. Provide counselling and support wherever required.
  5. Take appropriate disciplinary action based on the findings.

Disciplinary Action

Depending on the seriousness of the offence, disciplinary measures may include:

  • Written warning
  • Counselling
  • Parent meeting
  • Community service
  • Suspension from boarding
  • Suspension from school
  • Expulsion from the boarding programme
  • Expulsion from the school
  • Reporting to the appropriate authorities where required under applicable law

Support for Students

Students who experience or witness ragging will receive appropriate support through:

  • Counselling services
  • Emotional well-being support
  • Academic assistance where necessary
  • Regular follow-up by the boarding team

Students reporting incidents in good faith shall not face retaliation.

Students

  • Treat everyone with respect.
  • Never participate in ragging or bullying.
  • Report any incident immediately.
  • Support fellow students.

Parents

  • Encourage respectful behaviour.
  • Inform the school of any concerns.
  • Cooperate during investigations.

School

  • Maintain a safe residential environment.
  • Investigate complaints promptly.
  • Take fair and appropriate action.
  • Promote a culture of inclusion, empathy and responsibility.
